There is something to be said about discovering one’s passion and doin’ one’s thang. For me, my eureka moment crystallized about two years ago. I was working in the tech industry for a big contractor and on the road a lot. Unfortunately, it wasn’t unusual for me to be on the road for weeks at a time and working out of state mostly. Yes, the money was fantastic, but I missed out on so much, mainly important stuff like time spent with my wife and kids. Homey was homesick, much like E.T. and phoning home wasn’t cutting it. Not even a Lil’ bit.

The backstory is two years ago in the spring my wife got sick, and I took time off from work to take care of her and our young boys. While I was home, she put me to work helping out with her blogs. At some point, my wife was in need of a recipe and offhandedly she said, “Why don’t you make something for me…” And so it began.

Long story short, I never returned to work. I had a lot of PTO saved up and with FMLA I was able to stay home for a considerable and take care of the Mrs. It wasn’t long before I put in the two weeks notice and have never looked back.  I am finally really enjoy doing my job. I no longer dread getting up in morning wishing I was someplace else. There is infinite value in doing what you love, and like the saying goes, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

I have always been creative, and I enjoy cooking for friends and family a lot. Recently, I have discovered a love of creating new and interesting cocktails. For me, this is the best job ever!

Pom Cherry + Whiskey Cocktail

Okay, let’s talk about this cocktail. A few years ago I got into bourbon whiskey and have enjoyed discovering the various bourbon extractions form distilleries all over the country. My wife picked up a brown bottle from the Traverse City Whiskey Co. when she vistited Pestoskey a few years ago. So, here is what I did with this bottle of pretty good whiskey. I added some pomegranate juice, a bit of Marachinso cherry juice, simple syrup, whiskey and rose lemonade soda (secret ingredient). And garnished the whole beautiful thing with a whole cherry with a carefree scatter of pomegranate seeds. Not too bad, huh?

Tell me, what are your passions? What brings you joy and blows your hair back? I love reading the comments from all of the guys and gals. I really do, it’s my secret joy.
