While watching Avengers Infinity War (now playing in theaters), I’m sure everyone was thinking what I thought. Groot is a sassy teenager! lol, I’m exploring all the ways teenage Groot resembled our teenagers in Infinity War.

8 Times Teenage Groot was all of our teens in Infinity War

By now, most people have seen Infinity War at least once, maybe twice, possibly more than three times. {there are several spoilers listed below}

Infinity War had so many moving parts in it, with quite a few phenomenal moments and characters.

One of the characters that grabbed my attention as Groot. We’ve seen Groot before in Guardians I and II. In the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Groot was an adult. In the end, he dies, protecting the guardians, and Rocket takes a piece of his splintered limb and plants him in a pot.

In Guardians II, Groot is a small baby plant, just dancing away in his pot. Cute, but not helpful. Just like a baby. Lol

In Infinity War, Groot is a teenager. When my teens saw Groot for the first time (as a teen), they were like, “Oh, look, Groot’s a teenager!”

Yes, Groot is a teenager. And in typical teen fashion, he acted just like one the entire movie.

Teenage Groot

He plays Fortnite. This video game is all the rage right now in the gaming world. Although we don’t know what game Groot was playing, if I had to guess, it would be Fortnite.

Quill and Rocket kept telling him to put that game away. Hey, just like parents, we do the same thing to our kids. Spend some time outdoors. Too much T.V. will rot your brain out.

Is Marvel Avengers Infinity War for kids?

Our teens and Groot live in their own world. Groot lived in his own world and tuned everyone out. Groot stayed engrossed in his video game while everyone else tried out how to defeat Thanos. While his friends were off fighting against the children of Thanos, Groot continued to sit there and play his video games. Our teens do the same thing. They will tune everyone else out, engaging only when necessary.

He was sassy. Groot speaks Groot, but we can imagine what he’s saying by the body language and the tone of his voice. It would be fun to go to Asgard and learn Groot since it’s an elective up there. Our teens can get sassy and have attitudes. They are known to talk back and attempt to push us as parents. But, we have to be like Rocket, and let them know we are the parents.. we will put them in their place, quickly.

Is Avengers Infinity War funny?

He likes gross stuff. The only time Groot took a minute from his video game was to watch Thor put an eyeball in his socket that Rocket gave him. He was impressed. Why do teens, especially boys, find this type of stuff amusing?

Nonchalant attitude for important things. Teens can take their sweet time getting ready, knowing they are going to make you late. They move slowly. Their sense of time and urgency is gone to the wind. Groot acted the same way throughout Infinity War. He didn’t care that the world was going to pieces. He was absorbed into what was important to him, at that time.

I am Groot

Identity. Identity is essentials to teens. It was essential to Groot. Whenever people called him tree, he corrected them with, “I am Groot.” When Thor, Rocket, and Groot landed in Wakanda, Thor introduced Groot as Tree to Captain America.

And while our teens do all the things that get on our last nerve, they are good for something. They show up when it counts. As Thor lay dying because of the power from the celestial star, Etiri yelled to Groot to help him find the handle for the ax. Thor needed to feel his ax. Groot, who had been sitting there the entire time they were trying to build a new ax on his video game, not even caring about what was happening around him. However, when he saw his new friend Thor laying there, for a second, he wasn’t sure what to do. Then, Groot got up, pulled a limb from his body and welded it onto the ax. It was a pretty impressive moment. But it goes to show, that even though Teens can be in their own worlds, they still care. And they show up when it matters.

Groot’s last line in Infinity War with Rocket

Feelings. At the end of Infinity War, Thanos snaps his finger, and we see half of the population vanished. Groot was one of them. It was such an emotional moment, as the look on Rocket’s face turned to horror and sadness as Groot vanished away. We have recently learned that Groot’s last line, “I am Groot” was Dad. Yes, Rocket was his dad, and Groot was calling out his dad because he was scared. Our teens depend on else when they are scared, depressed, upset, or feeling some type of way. They need us. Groot needed his dad at that moment, scared of what was happening to him. Yes, our teens have feelings, and they reach out to us for help when they don’t know what to do.

I know this is not the end for Groot, and I can’t wait to see how this wraps in Avengers 4. Groot was one of my favorite characters, mainly because of his teenage antics. As a mom of teens and tweens, his behavior resonated all through my bones. Teens can do the most, but at the end of the day, they still their need parents to help them navigate this journey called life.
