A Zip Line In Time | Ziplining in Branson

If you have plans to travel to Branson, Missouri, going ziplining is an absolute MUST.

Here’s a recap of our day at Branson Zipline & Canopy Tour.

A few minutes before 8:00 a.m. we pull into the dirt parking lot of Branson Zipline & Canopy Tour.

We were greeted by the friendly staff and informed that our tour would start soon.

In short order, our tour guilds lead us outside the main building, and then we descend wooden steps down to the lower level around back. Now, we have officially entered Wolfe Creek Station.  We are joined by several other staff members who’ll assist us with our equipment.  After a warm welcome and a brief 10-minute orientation about the dos and don’ts, a staff member collects our gadgets.

We’ll be zip-lining up high, and no one wants a cell phone or camera to accidentally fall and shatter into untold pieces.

Next, we step into our harnesses, and with a little assistance from the staff, we are unceremoniously cinched, buckled, and secured for safety.

Lastly, we don our helmets and are now ready to go. We look like some version of the military (the fun brigade?) or we’re just family participants in some extreme sports known as “a good time”.

After passing inspection, we are deemed fit for duty. Outside, we pile into the battle-ready Pinzgauer Swiss Army Troop Carrier. We are told to buckle up, and as the vehicle lurches forward, we’re scrambling to comply, but we don’t see any seatbelts.  At this point, we’re looking around frantically, wondering where the heck the seat belts are… Our tour guides in the back begin to laugh, then inform us there aren’t any seat belts, so we better hold on tight. Good advice, as the mega all-terrain vehicles scramble up a rugged track crisscrossed with exposed roots and lots of bumps and dips. We jostled pretty well as the carrier followed a winding path and then took a steep hill. When we level out, the transport comes to an abrupt stop.  What a ride! We’re at the Teepee Tower on top of Wolfe Mountain.

This is our first zip line post, and we all quickly pile out and gather around our guides. The guides explain each step in easy-to-understand language: what to touch and not touch, where to place your hands and feet, and the best method of moving about so we don’t get injured.  Our guides are very relaxed and experienced, we’re in good hands is the vibe I’m getting. This is going to be a riot. I think (?) Our male tour guide is a living and breathing funny man. He and our youngest are going back and forth like a couple of chums. Our female tour guide has an affable seriousness; she is methodical and seems to double-check and recheck everything. Together, our guides made a pretty good team.

Now, the moment of truth. I stood back and let everyone else go before me, but the wife wanted to go last. S

o, when it was my turn, I was completely STOKED. Once again, I was shown what to do and how to do it, and then … off I went. WHOOSH!

I am suspended by a wire and zipping through the forest canopy, moving at the speed of fun. It is pretty cool and very exhilarating. Now, only seven more to go.

One by one, we, a forty-foot drop, and the Blue Streak still awaits.

It is in not way a stretch to say we all had a blast. This is a rarity in that the boys did not get bored with this activity.

Not once did anyone complain and it didn’t matter that we grew increasingly hot and sweaty as the sun climbed higher as the day wore on. We joked, teased each other, and generally had a great time doing something the whole family enjoyed.

I will say this: I think we could go zip lining every day of our vacation, and nobody would complain.

Things to know:

• We went on the Ozarks Xplorer Canopy Tour. This included 7 zip lines, 10 suspension bridges, and a 40′ Free-fall. Our tour took approximately 2.5 hours.
• There are no age restrictions on this particular tour.
• You must wear closed-toe shoes.
• Casual clothing is appropriate. Leave the purse, loose jewelry, expensive sunglasses, and gadgets in the car. Basically, anything that could potentially snag or valuables you don’t want to chance losing or getting damaged. They will take pictures along the way, which you can purchase at the end of the tour for a fee.
• Check places like Groupon on Living Social for discounts. {Also, call ahead to see if they’re running any particular specials!}
