Cars 3 DVD + Bonus Features

The Cars 3 movie is now available on DVD, today, November 7th! I remember when the first Cars film came out, my boys were hyped! We had to buy every single piece of merchandise, watch the movie a ton of times and put “Cars” requests on their Christmas list.

In Cars 3, Lightning McQueen once again has to dig deep and learn a few lessons. He’s no longer the main attraction, he’s old(er). Younger cars have taken over; they are faster, using modern technology, and running circles around Lightning McQueen. McQueen still has the urge and desire to race, but how will he fit in?

We finally see some girl power in Cars 3, when Cruz Ramirez, a tech-savvy trainer at Rust-eze Racing Center steps up to help McQueen find his place on the track. She’s bold, she’s fierce, and she doesn’t hold back as McQueen’s trainer.

Two themes I loved in this movie was mentorship and the confidence to go after your dreams. McQueen is older, and after the crash feels frustrated about not being able to win like in his glory days. This reminded me of the first Cars movie, where he is a fast-talking, know-it-all-I-don’t-want-to-listen-to-anyone. Back then Doc Hudson had to school him in a few things. In Cars 3, McQueen connects with Doc’s old trainer, Smokey. Between Smokey and Cruz, they help Lightning McQueen gain confidence and find his way again.

In Cars 3, we learn:

  • Failure is not an option. Sally said it best,  “Don’t fear failure — be afraid of not having the chance”?
  • It’s okay to make mistakes but learn from them- get back up and try again.
  • It’s okay to mix in a little old-school with modern technology.
  • Confidence is important. Even when you may be a little rusty, having confidence in yourself automatically makes you a winner.
  • Don’t knock out older people. (Think about Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles that may not be in their prime, but still want to be involved in things. Don’t just write them off because they are older.) This could be an excellent way for parents to talk to their kids about getting involved with their local nursing home to volunteer.
  • There’s room for everyone at the table. Cruz enters a field which has been heavily dominated by men. However, her skills and fierce personality show us all that she belongs at the table.

Overall, Cars 3 picks up after Cars 1. You’re reminded of why you fell in love with McQueen, Mater, Sally, and Radiator Springs.
