Copycat Starbuck’s PinkDrink & the Benefits of a2 Milk®

You know what’s not cool? Being able to eat your favorite type of Ice-Cream for YEARS. Like, since birth.

Then one night you wake up (after eating a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream) in excruciating pain! The pain continues to rack your body for hours. Then everything you ate starts coming up, down and out.

Literally.

You chalk it up as food poisoning. Then a few days later (after having more ice-cream), it happens all over again. You wake-up at two a.m. in PAIN. It feels as if you’re going to die. After spending several hours in the bathroom and bawled up in the fetal position most of the night, you start to think about what’s going on.

Over the next few months, you continue to have this issue. After the fourth time of this happening, you start to put two and two together. It’s the ice-cream. No, because it happened when you had Macaroni and Cheese.

It’s dairy.

Yes, dairy!

  • Dairy, the thing you have loved since you were born. Dairy= milk.
  • Milk=in your favorite cereal.
  • Milk= your favorite cookies and milk.
  • Milk= your favorite Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey Ice-Cream (or any ice cream)
  • Dairy= Cheese.
  • Cheese= your Grandma’s Mac & Cheese.
  • Cheese= your favorite chocolate cheesecake
  • Cheese= your husband’s favorite Loaded Nachos recipe.

Does this sound familiar? This may be your story, but this is also my story.

When my Mom passed in 2014, I binged on a pint of ice-cream. The next morning around 2 a.m. I woke up with sharp pains in my stomach. I thought I was about to die. I called my Dad sobbing. I believe it was a mix of pain and the emotional pain.

As I mentioned above, over the course of the next few months, I painfully found out I could no longer have dairy products. Yes, I had a lactose intolerance for regular milk.

People mentioned trying other types of milk, pills, etc.

But, I was scared. I was scared of trying anything with milk in it and having to repeat the 2 a.m. cycle.

Derrick, (he’s hip to the latest news on eating healthy, organic, etc.) mentioned about trying a2 Milk®. He even wrote something about a1 milk vs. a2 Milk®.

I blew him off and said nope; I wasn’t ready to try anything with milk in it.

Fast Forward to 2016. I’m tired of not having milk! How am I supposed to enjoy my favorite bowl of cereal? And we all love dunking our milk into Oreo or Chocolate Chip cookies!

So, I decided I was brave enough to try the a2 Milk®. Just a little. Here’s what made me decide to try it. I’m a BIG fan of lattes and frappuccinos. But guess what’s in them? MILK! Lately, I’ve been on a kick of making my own copycat drinks like the ones you find at Starbucks. And, if you’re keeping with the latest Internet craze, the Pink Drink from Starbucks is all the rave right now!

So, what is a2 Milk®?

a2 Milk® IS real milk! Many people think it’s a skim milk or something different, but it is real milk! The issue with a1 milk and why many people have a problem with it is the A1 protein found in a1 milk {found in conventional and organic milk}.

With a2 Milk®, it is naturally free from of the A1 protein. And yes, this milk still comes from cows. 🙂

Here are the benefits of drinking and using a2 Milk®:

  • If you have tummy issues or dairy issues, this milk is for you.
  • It’s a great alternative to the processed products out on the market.
  • You can still have your milk and cookies.
  • You can make homemade ice-cream using a2 Milk®
  • You will still get the necessary amount of potassium, calcium, and protein.

Did you know 1 in 4 Americans has an issue after drinking milk? Yes, and only 5-7% have been clinically diagnosed with a lactose intolerance medical condition. Like me, I did not go and get an official medical diagnose but was able to put two and two together.

By using a2 Milk®, I can still enjoy having my favorite lattes and fraps without wearing about any aftermath issues. I can also dunk my Oreos into a glass of a2 Milk® and drink to my heart’s content. I can also have my favorite cereal with milk and no worries!
Have you tried a2 Milk® before? If you have dairy issues, I highly recommend giving this a go. Not only are you still getting all of the necessary nutrients, but you can also have MILK!
Since I love the Pink Drink at Starbucks, I decided to make my own version. Check it out!

Mmm… I’ve never had this – either at Starbucks or at home – but I’m intrigued.
My sister was diagnosed with lactose intolerance in high school. Then, strangely, she could eat dairy all she wanted when pregnant. I have no idea why! I’ll pass this along to her, though!

I love dairy products and would probably cry if I had to stop eating them. It is so great that they make alternatives you can actually drink though. This drink looks delicious!

This drink looks so good! I know a lot of people with dairy issues and they do get frustrated at times. This milk seems like a great alternative.

I very rarely indulge in something sweet from Starbucks but it’s only because I am cutting down on my sugar intake really. Have you tried it with skim milk? We switched years ago from 2% to skim so I am just curious if it effects the taste at all.
