“Let them eat data!” For certain, Marie-Antoinette never uttered such a thing, but such a recapitulation is warranted.

If you’re like me, you and your family have phones, and if said phones are sucking data from a shared data plan, then you understand just how real the shared data struggle is. Our three boys each have a phone, and although they each use their respective phones differently they have one thing in common. They go through data like nobodies business! One son loves YouTube, another plays games galore, and our youngest boy loves streaming movies (and he loves for me to watch the movies with him). Geesh!

What is a mama to do?

But I got good news for you, Walmart has an affordable solution! With Walmart’s newly launched Walmart Family Mobile Plus Plan you can breathe a little easier knowing you have the extra data you and your family needs to stay connected to the things you love. And when you pair the plan with the a Samsung Galaxy S5 you pretty much hit the data goldmine. While this is big news, that’s not all because it gets a whole lot better! For all of the extra data with the Walmart Family Mobile Plus Plan, you may think you’ll have to fork over more dinero. Not the case. The whole shebang is just $49.88 per month!

So now, my little guy and I can have our mom and son chill time together and watch movies and youtube videos on his smart phone, no problem. We can watch funny dog videos on youtube for hours at a time!  With all of the money we’re saving from having the Walmart Family Mobile Plus Plan, there will be more movie watching treats. Okay Pokemon: XY, Season 1 I am one ready mama!

Since we are always on the go, I came up with a simple solution to keep all of the chargers and necessary tech essentials in one place! This is an easy DIY to create and have ready for your next travel trip.

I stopped by my local craft store and picked up a small box. I particularly picked this one due to the smaller size and the round finishes. My travel tech box will easily fit into my purse or travel bag. I am going to make one for each of the boys, and they will be able to put it into their backpacks.

So here’s how you make a Travel Tech Box.

Travel Tech Essentials-1

First, I opted out of painting my tech box and just wrapped it in vinyl (or you can use wrapping paper or you can paint it). My reasoning for not painting the box is the wear and tear it will have and paint chipping off into my purse.

Travel Tech Essentials-2

Measure and lay the box inside of the vinyl paper.

Travel Tech Essentials-3

Once you have the box fully covered, cut off any extra paper. Then took the vinyl paper and pull the backside off and place it smoothly on the tech box.( I decided to go back and cut off the paper on the sides.)

Travel Tech Essentials-4

I also picked up a small clear container from the craft store. I am going to use this to help keep the cords and little tech knacks organized.

Travel Tech Essentials-5

Break the top of the container off and hot glue the bottom of the container inside the tech box. This will allow the container to stay in place. You can leave the lid on the container as an option.

Travel Tech Essentials-7

Once it’s dry and glued into the place, you’re ready to use your travel tech box!

Travel Tech Essentials-1

So, let’s add all of the necessary essentials when it comes to traveling with all of your gadgets!

  1. Of course you will need your phone. The Samsung Galaxy S5 perfectly fits in this tech box.
  2. USB Drive
  3. Charger for Samsung Galaxy S5 (or whatever phone you have)
  4. Earbuds. Trust me, if you’re flying with screaming babies on the plane you will thank me later.
  5. Selfie Stick. No, this is not optional! Everyone NEEDS a Selfie Stick!
  6. Portable Battery.
  7. Another portable battery as a backup with the first portable battery runs out. Again, trust me on this.
  8. Gum. Enough said.
  9. Chapstick or something to keep your lips moist.
  10. If you have other gadgets, be sure to have extra chargers and USB cords.
  11. For me, I need my Stress Away essential oils. Traveling can be stressful at times, and this keeps me calm.
  12. Pen and notepad or sticky notes. Although our phones can do everything, I like to keep the old-fashioned items as a backup.
  13. {not pictured} But you will also need a car charger!

And see how easily it fits in my bag!

I believe I covered all of the necessary travel essentials. Now, I did leave one out. A portable hotspot. With a smartphone and Walmart’s latest Family Mobile Plus Plan I have additional data which also includes a hotspot!  I also did not list having a digital camera, since the Samsung Galaxy S5 takes amazing photos! I love having a data plan that packs a punch!

What would you do with extra data? And if you are planning any road trips or traveling soon, make sure you have the necessary essentials listed above to help you be prepared. Trust me, there’s nothing funny about being out in the middle of no where with only one bar of power left!

This is a great idea! I am always trying to find my stuff in the bottom of my purse. How creative are you?!

  4. January 29, 2016

That is a cool box! I would love to make a travel tech box to take whenever I need to go anywhere.

  5. January 30, 2016

I love that travel tech box. I usually use a pouch bag to keep my gadgets in when I travel but the cords get all tangled. I love your idea of using a box instead.

  6. January 30, 2016

I seem to always lose chargers and things when I’m on vacation. This would definitely solve my problem!

  7. January 30, 2016

Such a brilliant idea. I will do this next time we travel so my tech stuff are not scattered.

  8. January 30, 2016

Your box is a great idea. I would like to suggest adding an ethernet cable. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve checked into a hotel room only to find that the wifi signal is too weak and I have to hard wire into the internet. Sometimes hotels have a few they can loan out, but many times they don’t. I’ve started keeping one in my computer case … just in case.

  9. January 30, 2016

We need to create something like this. Our cords and ear buds and battery banks are usually all over the place, this would help us stay organized!!
