Father’s Day Weekend: Family Golfing Event With A Purpose
When the warm weather hits Michigan, its the beginning of outside activities for families on the go. From hiking, camping, and kayaking, Michigan has quite the list of outdoors fun for the whole family. This weekend our family tried something different; we were invited to check out the 2019 Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. This was the first golf outing for myself and our boys, and there was some concern as to whether they would enjoy themselves. (Teens, right?)
This was such a fun event because it is an outside sports competition and we got to walk leisurely along the well-kept grounds of the beautiful Blythefield Country Club located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We arrived shortly after noon and spent the next 3 – 4 hours walking, watching a little golf on the large monitors located around the course, and enjoying lots of delicious food.
The Meijer LPCA Classic
The cool thing about the 2019 Meijer LPGA Classic is that is has something for the whole family. The LPGA Classic is a women’s professional golf tournament in Michigan on the LPGA Tour. Proceeds from the tournament and each of the week’s festivities benefit the Meijer Simply Give program.
Of course, there is golf to watch, but there are also additional scheduled events like The Discovery Land, Junior Clinics, 5K Walk & Run, and of course my favorite the Grand Taste at the Meijer LPGA Classic. This food event is touted as a much-needed “The Best Food Experience On Any Tour!”
Meijer Simply Give program
Since November 2008, the Meijer Simply Give program has raised over $48 million which has helped neighborhood food pantries keep their shelves stocked. And with hunger as a significant corporate philanthropic focus and the support of Meijer partners, hundreds of food banks and pantries receive much-needed support through its Simply Give and food rescue programs. Meijer also supports local education, emergency disaster relief, and health and wellness initiatives. I like the sound of that!
Did you know children 17 and under can enter free with a ticketed adult? And to help to keep the kids entertained Meijer has created the Discovery Land at the Meijer LPGA Classic venue with games and lots of hands-on experiences to keep the young ones engaged in a safe and fun environment. They also have a designated area for parents with babies who may need a little quiet time and a place to nurse their babies. They thought of everything to make this a family-friendly event.
Don’t let these faces fool you, but they had a great time. While they considered themselves too old to check out the kid activities, they enjoyed checking out all the food samples and freebies. All of our boys are foodies, so an event like this, filled with a variety of good food is right up their alley.
We all loved the Paella booth!
If you are in the mood for something sweet, make sure to stop by the Hershey’s kiosk and enjoy a chocolate S’ mores you’ll be glad you did!
Our youngest son kept sneaking back to the Hershey truck for more s’mores!
This is a great family-friendly event, and since it takes around Father’s Day, this would be something the dad in your life will enjoy. Meijer LPGA Classic event takes place June 14 through 17, 2020.
We had a great time, and there are lots of fun, excitement, and lots of delicious food to enjoy.
