I remember the hype about the books a few years back. Derrick and I both read the books together as a couple’s activity. (hmmm) When I heard the books would be made into movies, I could not contain my excitement and was there with my girlfriend the first weekend it hit the movie theaters. And the movies lived up to my expectations.

50 Shades Darker Party Ideas

When it comes to entertaining in your home, here’s a few things you want to keep in mind.

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. This is about having a good time with your girlfriends. They are not coming over to inspect your house. Do some light cleaning, making sure the bathroom gets a thorough clean.
  2. Put together a list of snacks, appetizers, and drinks. Will you have others bring snacks or are you going to provide everything for your guests? This is something you want to nail down as soon as possible. Make your list and head to the grocery store to buy everything a few days before your girls night in party. {be sure to get popcorn}
  3. Download a copy of Fifty Shades Darker Unrated from iTunes.
  4. You can head to to find more Fifty Shades viewing party ideas.

Things to do at your Fifty Shades Darker Party:

Play Games. Come up with fun games to play, like Pin the Tie on Christian Grey, buy the Fifty Shades Party Board Game, as well as the Fifty Shades Red Room Expansion Pack

Masquerade Party. As a theme idea, you could have your guests dress up in fancy clothes and have a Masquerade Party. Stop by your party store or go online to find fancy masks for each of your guests.

Have a movie marathon. Start with Fifty Shades of Grey, then move on to Fifty Shades Darker. While you’re enjoying your movie, load up on popcorn, and other themed snacks.

Create a fun atmosphere. Head over to iTunes and download both film soundtracks, featuring artists like The Weeknd and Annie Lennox.

Photo fun. Buy a silver backdrop and props. Take turns taking photos with all of your friends. I’m sure by the time you’ve all had a few cocktails and a glass of the Fifty Shades wine; you will be ready to have some fun in the front of the camera.

Gift Ideas. Put together a fun gift bag to give to each of your guests. It can be a copy of the Fifty Shades Darker movie tie-in book, along with some small ideas like red lipstick, a bottle of Fifty Shades wine, and a pair of handcuffs.

Create food ideas from the movie. There are many different ways you can create snacks and drinks around the movies.

50 Shades Darker Party Ideas

We came up with a few ideas based on Christian and Ana’s favorite drinks. Derrick is sharing how to whip up a few cocktails and blueberry pancake mousse tart for your Fifty Shades Darker Viewing Party!

Blueberry Pancake Mousse Tart

Blueberry Pancake Mousse Tart

Like a lot of people, my wife and I succumb to the allure and off the beaten intrigue of the Fifty Shades series. Actually, and I am still not sure how she pulled it off, but my wife convinced me to read the books with her. So, there we lay side by side, I would read several pages, and she would get her turn. Together we learned about the exploits of Mr. Christian Grey and the (at first) innocent and introverted Anastasia Steele. It was an interesting mental ride through a whole other world her, nor I knew existed. Lot’s of surprising Google searches ensued, much to our surprise. The books were penned by the English author E. L. James. My wife and I always wondered how she became interested in such “interesting” material or why she was compelled to write her book.

So, of course, the breakfast idea was inspired by Mr. Grey’s penchant for blueberry muffins. I thought it would be fun to make a decadent blueberry pancake creation with lots of cream and salted caramel. We think it came out pretty good and it tasted even better.

Blueberry Pancake Mousse Tart

We think Mr. Grey would approve and we’d like to think that Anastasia would like them too. I mean really, do you see all of those Yumville blueberries?

Blueberry Pancake Mousse Tart

We used lots of cream because cream makes everything (almost) taste better!

The warm velvety and gooey drip drops of salted caramel weren’t a bad thing either. This is a rich, sinful, and deliciously passionate little cup of sunshine that will fuel your appetite for whatever comes next, and for that, we claim no responsibility.

And stop biting your lip for Pete’s sake!

But we’re not finished here because we have a couple of Fifty Shades Darker inspired cocktails to cool things down when the heat rises. Once again I am drawing on the book series for inspiration. Christian Grey liked his gin, either Hendricks (with cucumber) or Bombay Sapphire (with lime). We selected the latter and created the Love Potion No. Grey. It’s light and refreshing but so easy to put together. We’ll show you how down below…

Love Potion No. Grey Cocktail

Here’s a pro-tip regarding gin, when using gin to make a cocktail this distilled spirit should never be shaken, always stirred. Gin, when shaken with ice in a cocktail shaker can cause the organic compounds which make up gin to go off flavor when subjected to the constant interaction of banging ice. Simple enough.

We start off with adding ice to our cocktail shaker…

Then add 1-ounce of  Sweetened Lime Juice, and a 1/2 ounce of Cocktail Crate’s Rosemary Greyhound, top it off with 2 ounces of chilled tonic soda. Using a long-handled bar spoon briskly stir the cocktail for 25 seconds. Garnish with a fresh lime slice, and there you have it. Mr. Grey your drink is served!

Being a fan of Fifty Shades books who doesn’t know of Anastasia’s beverage of choice, Twinings English Breakfast Tea. We used this tea as the backbone of Anastasia’s Hard Breakfast Tea cocktail. It is a delicious mix of steeped tea and a wonderful combination of spirits and flavors.

Anastasia's Hard Breakfast Tea

Start with adding lots of ice into a cocktail shaker. Add 2 1/2 ounces of chilled Twining’s English Breakfast Tea.

Anastasia's Hard Breakfast Tea

We add a 1/2 ounce of  Caravella Limoncello, and 1 ounce of Svedka Strawberry Lemonade flavored vodka, top it off with Fever Tree Tonic Water.

Anastasia's Hard Breakfast Tea

Secure the lid of the cocktail shaker and shake until you just can’t take it anymore. This wonderful cocktail is garnished with fresh strawberries and a slice of refreshing lemon.

Now, who can resist the irresistible? Not me, and who would want to anyway? So, grab your honey and rekindle the sparks and slightly risque magic that is Fifty Shades Darker. Go and indulge, satisfy, and quench your appetite for our delicious creations!

  1. In a large bowl combine all of the wet dry ingredients: add the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and sea salt, mix well.

  3. Add the buttermilk, and melted butter and continue to mix well.
  4. Little by little add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mix until the mixture is just combined. Overbeating will result in tough pancakes, and who wants that?
  5. Cover the pancake batter with a large dish towel and let it sit for 10 minutes. You should see tiny air holes on the top of the batter.
  6. Place a large cast iron skillet over low-medium heat and add two tablespoons of melted butter, or use canola or vegetable oil. When the skillet is hot add two and a half (2 1/2) tablespoons of pancake batter, use a spoon to spread the batter into a small circle.
  7. Drop 3-4 plump blueberries onto the pancake.
  8. Watch the pancake closely, when small air bubbles start to appear on the surface flip the pancake over, cook until golden brown.  When finished add a bit of melted butter and store pancakes in a warm oven until they’re all done.
  9. Add your favorite topping, like yogurt and fruit or the traditional maple syrup.
  10. Serve and enjoy.

This is an amazing idea for those that are interested in the books and movie. I have to admit that I couldn’t quite get into it. I started the first book and couldn’t finish so I never watched any of the movies. I don’t mind eating the dessert sans movie though. 🙂

    • Well, thank you very much Ms. AnnMarie! I am always curious about what other folks think about books. I’ll say this, the books were definitely and interesting and eye opening read, to say the least. And to be honest we wouldn’t mind you eating the dessert sans the movie either. Like we could stop you anyway! Love ya’ and thanks for stopping by.

My husband and I love to entertain and have never thought about doing anything like this. The 50 shades series wasn’t for me .. but this sounds like a great idea for those who really enjoyed it. That being said .. I would love to make the Blueberry Pancake Mousse Tart and wash it down with a good strong drink!

    • Ali, I couldn’t agree more! My wife and I love to entertain too and themed parties other than the typical and traditional ones like July 4th, Halloween, Christmas and New Years can be a lot of fun. Gather together several (or as many as you can handle) and create a beautiful and fun experience that folks will remember. And yes, do make the Blueberry Pancake Mousse Tart. It is so easy but completely yumville! Thank you!

  4. April 29, 2017
