Let’s Take a Road Trip!
Living in Mid-Michigan and looking at the snow, snow storms, snow days, ice and everything else that deals with Winter can make you sick and tired of being sick and tired of winter!
I usually take a birthday trip during this month to one of my favorite spots- Southern California. However, being one that refuses to pay a high price for airline tickets I had to rethink my options. The only other place that is warm (and easy to get to) is Florida.
So we decided, hey– let’s pack up the car and go on a road trip. I will be the first one to tell you that I do not like sitting in a car for a long period of time! Add three boys on top of it (especially with Zion and his quirks and ways of not being able to handle noise in that small of a space for a long time), I was not looking forward to the drive.
We left around 2 pm on Tuesday. And guess what… the boys did GREAT. Zayd’n sat in the front as the co-pilot with Derrick. He actually stayed up most of the trip. He conked out around 3 am Wednesday morning and got up at 8 am. We made great time and landed in Florida around 11 am on Wednesday.
Having gadgets and things to keep them busy was a definite must. The boys entertained themselves with their iPads, read books and played with their video games. Also having their own Beats by Dr. Dre helped because I didn’t have to listen to a ton of different noises going off at the same time. They were also a blessing for Zion since he can be quite sensitive to a lot of noise.
I also downloaded some Road Trip printables from one my favorite blogs iheartorganizing.
I downloaded a printable for the license plate game and ispy. This was actually quite fun. It kept them all entertained looking for license plates and having fun with each other to help pass some of the time. They are still playing the license plate game. Their goal is to hopefully get every single State while we’re out here on the road.
When traveling with kids and they have electronics, I highly suggest having a hotspot on your phone. Having mobile wi-fi is definitely a must for us. The boys were able to watch Netflix, Youtube videos, and I was able to work as well.
We also brought our snacks from home, so we only stopped for dinner and breakfast. *this can definitely be a money saver when you pack snacks, sandwiches and fruit. There are several ways that you can save while out on the road. Be sure to read ways to save on a road trip for more tips!
So we’re here in Florida for a week. Be sure to follow along on our family fun vacation adventure!
