Give your classic Manhattan cocktail a twist with fresh pressed juice. And if you don’t have that readily available, mix your whiskey with apple cider to create our Old Town Manhattan cocktail. Get the recipe down below!

Old Town Manhattan

There is something to be said about being a locavore on the constant lookout for goodies close to home. Case in point, on a recent jaunt through Old Town the Mrs. and I exited Bradley’s Home Decor store and crossed the street and walked into Juice Nation Press Juicery on Grand River and it was so “on”! I have been keeping my eye on this place all year but never (for some ungodly reason) stopped in, well today was the day. The first thing I noticed when I walked was the chill vibe and the smiling face of Ash. She explained about the various juices and encouraged us to taste a couple of samples. Why did she go and do that for? Although we enjoyed both, the Blue Lemonade and the Spiced Apple. The latter was our fav, and so we purchased a bottle, and on my way out of the door, I thought, “This would make an awesome Manhattan.

And so this is the story, and I am sticking to do mainly because it is true and 100% verifiable (I got pics). Oh, how about a little history? JN Press juices are locally made and bottled, and also 100% raw organic. The plan is to try all of their flavors, but right now I am really feeling the blend of apple, clove, cinnamon, lemon, rosemary, and eucalyptus blend.  I think this is the perfect Michigan mixer to create our Old Town Manhattan. And get this, it’s super easy to make, all you will need is JN Press and your favorite Kentucky bourbon and some crushed ice. The cinnamon stick and pine needles garnish are optional but don’t they look absolutely smashing darling? Also, if you are ever in Old Town do drop in and give JN Press a try, I think you will love ’em as we do.

Directions:

  1. In a bar mixing glass add three cubes of ice, bourbon, and JN Press Juice.
  2. Stir with a long-handled bar spoon vigorously for 40 seconds.
  3. Strain into a standard rocks glass filled with crushed ice, garnish with a cinnamon stick stuffed with rinsed pine needles just because it looks cool.
  4. Serve.

Drink responsibly, and never drink and drive
