This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Shell, in which I was compensated. The opinions and text are all mine.

As a young driver, I remember paying .99 cents per gallon. Then the price of gas continued to rise, drop, rise, and drop again. Right now I love the price of gas in my neck of the woods. When gas prices are down, I feel I can afford to splurge and take a few road trips. But, wouldn’t it be cool to have that feeling all the time?! Keep reading as I talk about how we are fueling our summer, and how to save on gas!

Looking for the best tips on how to save on gas? Be sure to read my post on now we're fueling our road trips this summer with this one huge savings tip!

How We’re Fueling Our Summer Road Trips

We have quite a few road trips planned this summer! Michigan is a beautiful place to vacation during the summer and fall months, and my goal is to take advantage of this season and plan a few trips.  We are also planning to add a few other Midwest destinations to our road trip bucket list.

Best family road trip - Kia Sedona

Here are a few ideas we have planned:

  • SUV camping in the Marquette area
  • Manistee, Michigan
  • Sleeping Bear Dunes
  • Traverse City and the Cherry Festival
  • Chicago and surrounding areas
  • Boyne/Petoskey areas
  • Hocking Hills (Ohio)
  • Possibly another road trip to Indiana
  • Hershey PA/New York

I’ve talked extensively about ways you can afford to travel. I’ve covered how to save on airfare, hotels, and activities. However, traveling via car means another expense.

Gas.

The Best Way To Save On Gas

Did you know you can SAVE money on gas? Yes, just not on the price of gas. There are a variety of ways to fuel your road trip. Today I am going to share how we’re fueling our summer road trips with  Shell and the *Fuel Rewards® program.

The Best Way To Save On Gas

What is it? Fuel Rewards® is a loyalty program*, that can earn you savings for fueling up with Shell. When you shop, travel, or eat out at participating restaurants and make qualifying day-to-day purchases from participating merchants, you will earn Fuel Rewards® savings on your gas- just make sure to link your credit card to your Fuel Rewards® account. These savings will add up, which helps you pay less at the pump!

How does it work? When you shop online, dine out, travel, make day-to-day purchases, and other card-linked offers, you are earning Fuel Rewards®. You can also earn Fuel Rewards® on specially marked items inside Shell stations, and by linking your MasterCard® to your Fuel Rewards® account. Visit their website to learn more about the variety of ways you can earn Fuel Rewards®.

Plus, by being a member of the Fuel Rewards® program, you will automatically save 5 cents off per gallon (up to 20 gallons/visit at participating stations).

How to redeem Fuel Rewards. Go to participating Shell stations (or other participating gas stations) and, when prompted at the pump select the Fuel Rewards® option. Swipe your card or enter your ALT ID, then swipe your credit card to pay. Did I mention the Fuel Rewards® program is FREE! Yes, it’s easy to sign up and start earning rewards to help cut down on the cost of your gas.

Did I mention the Fuel Rewards® program is FREE!? Yes, it’s easy to sign up and start earning rewards to help cut down on the cost of your gas.

Here’s another way the Fuel Rewards® program is awesome:

Send your referral link to friends and family so they can join the Fuel Rewards program. Then, the first time a friend uses the program by earning a reward or using their card at a participating Shell station, you will instantly earn 25¢/gal. There’s no limit to how many friends you invite or how many times you earn!

Shell Fuel Rewards Instant Gold Status program

Now until December 31st, 2017, they are offering Instant Gold Status for FREE! When you become a Fuel Rewards® member, you will earn 5 cents off per gallon (up to 20 gallons/visit)!

The Best Way To Save On Gas

With Instant Gold Status, you are automatically getting 5 cents off per gallon, which will stack with other rewards you can earn from the Fuel Rewards® Program (when you have linked your credit card to your Fuel Rewards® account). As a couponer, I know all about how stacking works, and it’s ah-mazing! When I’m shopping at one of my favorite stores, I can easily stack their rewards program with my coupons, plus the sales and save a ton of money.

It’s the same concept with Shell and the Fuel Rewards® Program. When you earn Fuel Rewards®, which gives you savings at the pump, topped with the 5 cents off per gallon you get with the Instant Gold Status, it’s a stack of savings!

Talk about a game changer!

The Best Way To Save On Gas

You know the feeling when you get free shipping on an item or walk out the store paying hardly anything for your groceries by using coupons? That feeling of, “I’m a boss,” is the same feeling you will have with Instant Gold Status. I love to save money, so anytime I can save a few dollars at the pump, I’m grateful.

The Best Way To Save On Gas

I love programs that reward you for doing what you do on a daily basis. We travel quite often, which means we will dine out, stay at hotels, seek out activities, shopping and more. With this idea of being able to save money on my gas for doing what I’m going to do anyway, it’s an awesome incentive to keep shopping! (Lol)

As I mentioned previously, it’s free to sign up for the Fuel Rewards® Program and start earning 3 cents off per gallon. However, it’s time to take advantage of the Instant Gold Status offer which gives you 5 cents off per gallon. It doesn’t matter if you’re going on road trips this summer, commuting to work, or running kids around all summer, you need to save money on gas. The Instant Gold Status offer is currently available for FREE until December 31st, 2017, and you’ll keep your Gold Status and 5 cents per gallon discount by filling up six times in three months or an average of twice per month (pretty dang easy for me). Be sure to visit the website to get more information about Instant Gold Status.

How Does the KIA Sorento Drive?

Over the next few months, I am going to be sharing tips on how I use the Instant Gold Status and the Fuel Rewards® Program to save on travel, prep for the holidays, and overall day-to-day purchases. But while you’re waiting on those details, start with signing up for a free Fuel Rewards® account and Instant Gold Status.

What do you have planned for the summer? What road trips are you taking? And how do you currently save on gas? Drop me a line below and let me know!

*Restrictions apply. To qualify for the Gold/Silver Status offers, you must be a Fuel Rewards® member and swipe your Fuel Rewards® card or enter your Alt ID when you fuel at a participating Shell station. With Gold Status, you will receive 5¢/gal in Fuel Rewards® savings on every fill-up. The 5¢/gal reward for Gold Status will be combined with other rewards in your Fuel Rewards® account. If you are an existing Fuel Rewards® member, you will receive Gold Status from 6/5/2017 through 12/31/17, the “Existing Member Introductory Period.” If you are a new Fuel Rewards® member, you will receive Gold Status for the initial month you join through the last day of the month, 6 full calendar months later, the “New Member Introductory Period.” The last 3 months of the Existing Member Introductory Period or the New Member Introductory Period (collectively the “Introductory Period”) is the “Qualification Period.” You will retain your Gold Status during the Qualification Period, but you must make 6 qualifying fuel purchases to qualify for Gold Status for the next 3 months, the “Benefit Period.” During the Benefit Period, you must continue to make 6 qualifying fuel purchases to maintain your Gold Status for the next 3-month Benefit Period. A qualifying fuel purchase is any fuel purchase at a participating Shell station in which you swipe your Fuel Rewards® card or enter your Alt ID and fill up with at least 5-gallons of any grade of fuel. For example, if you are a new Fuel Rewards® member and register on 6/15/2017, you will receive Gold Status through the New Member Introductory Period (i.e., 12/31/2017). You will need to fill up with at least 5 gallons of fuel at least 6 times during the Qualification Period (i.e., 10/1/2017 and 12/31/2017) to maintain Gold Status during the Benefit Period (i.e., from 1/1/2018 to 3/31/2018). Thereafter, if you continue to fill up with at least 5 gallons of fuel at least 6 times during the successive 3 consecutive month Benefit Periods, you will retain your Gold Status. If you do not maintain your Gold Status, you will receive Silver Status. With Silver Status, you will receive 3¢/gal in Fuel Rewards® savings. The 3¢/gal reward for Silver Status will be combined with other rewards in your Fuel Rewards® account. Redeem Fuel Rewards® savings with your Fuel Rewards® card or Alt ID at participating Shell stations. Fuel Rewards® savings are limited to 20 gallons of fuel per purchase, per vehicle, or fraud limits placed by Shell and/or limits placed on your financial card by your financial institution, each of which may be lower. Fuel Rewards® savings must be redeemed in a single transaction. Once you begin to dispense fuel using your Fuel Rewards® savings, you must dispense to the 20-gallon limit or you forfeit any remaining discounted gallons of fuel. For example, if you only pump fifteen (15) gallons of fuel, you would abandon the remaining five (5) gallons of discounted fuel. If you have a rewards balance greater than the current per-gallon price of fuel, the price will roll down to the maximum capability of the fuel equipment, and your remaining rewards will be saved for a future fuel purchase. Dispenser may require a price of up to 10.9¢/gal. It may not be possible to combine multiple discounts and/or rewards in a single transaction. For purchases of $75 or more, please go inside to pay. Unbranded diesel and alternative fuels may not be eligible. The Fuel Rewards® program is owned and operated by Excentus Corporation. Offer may be modified or discontinued at any time without notice. Not valid where prohibited by law. Please see fuelrewards.com for complete Fuel Rewards® program details and Terms and Conditions. Other restrictions may apply. Fuel Rewards sounds like a great program. I will have to tell my boyfriend about it, since he’s the one who always puts gas in the cars.

We have a Shell over here, but haven’t done the rewards program yet. Obviously, I’m missing out! Oh, and I remember when gas was .89 cent when I started driving… those were the days!

I save so much money using the gas rewards. Some places even offer the double points if you buy a soda or snack inside. Which I love and take advantage of!
