Exclusive Look at the set of Single Parents (PHOTOS)

Yesterday I shared with y’all my first set visit, featuring ABC’s show, The Rookie. Well, after that set visit, we hopped over to the set of Single Parents, a new comedy on ABC. We were able to explore every nook and cranny of this set, so I have a TON of photos I am going to share with you guys! Like I mentioned yesterday, I was super excited about set visits since this has been on my bucket list for a while. I love to see the behind-the-scenes of shows, and this set did not disappoint.

First, if you’re not familiar with “Single Parents” let me give you a synopsis of this comedy.

This ensemble comedy follows a group of single parents as they lean on each other to help raise their 7-year-old kids and maintain some kind of personal lives outside of parenthood. The series begins when the group meets Will Cooper, a 30-something guy who’s been so focused on raising his daughter that he’s lost sight of who he is as a man. When the other single parents see just how far down the rabbit hole of PTA, parenting, and princesses Will has gone, they band together to get him out in the world and make him realize that being a great parent doesn’t mean sacrificing everything about your own identity.

“Single Parents” airs on Wednesdays at 9:30|8:30c on ABC, and can also be watched via streaming (ABC app/ABC.com/Hulu) and on demand.

Who’s in “Single Parents”: The series stars Taran Killam as Will Cooper, Leighton Meester as Angie D’Amato, Kimrie Lewis as Poppy Banks, Jake Choi as Miggy Park, Marlow Barkley as Sophie Cooper, Tyler Wladis as Graham D’Amato, Devin Trey Campbell as Rory Banks, Mia Allan as Emma Fogerty, Ella Allan as Amy Fogerty and Brad Garrett as Douglas Fogerty.

Jason Winer

Upon arriving on the set, we were ushered into a seating area, and quickly greeted by Jason Winer. Jason is the director and one of the executive producers of “Single Parents.” If you’re a fan of ABC’s “Modern Family,” then you will recognize his work since he is best known for directing the pilot of that show, as well as 19 episodes.  His work has been recognized with an Emmy® Award, DGA Award, PGA Award, AFI Award, and a Peabody. {Find him on Twitter and Instagram}

Before we started the set tour, Jason shared with us about the layout of the set. He mentioned they get a lot of scenes shot in a short amount of time due to cross shooting technique, which allows them to capture all of the spontaneous magic happening in every direction. “The cameras are firing in both directions at once, and it requires the actors blocking to be really specific. Otherwise, you will see the other camera.” He goes on to say this works because they can trust the kids, praising them on being great actors and handling all of the constant movement from every corner of a room.

As we started the tour, Jake Choi (plays single dad, Miggy Park) showed up to help give the tour of all of the homes and school! While we were touring the set, we got a glimpse of some filming going on in Taran Killam’s house (he plays Will Cooper on the show).

Douglas Fogerty’s house on Single Parents

Brad Garret plays Douglas Fogerty, a widow and dad to twin girls. FYI, he has a small role in Ralph Breaks the Internet. Did you catch the role? Let me know below!

Angie D’Amato’s house on Single Parents

Leighton Meester plays Angie D’Amato, a single mom on ABC’s “Single Parents.” I seriously LOVE this living room!

For Angie’s house, Jason mentioned they wanted it to look real. A lot of parents will look at her kitchen, and think, “yup, my kitchen looks like that too!” The struggle of a single parent trying to juggle everything is what this house portrays to me.

Miggy’s apartment on Single Parents

Jake Choi plays single day, Miggy Park, who is trying to figure out the whole baby thing on Single Parents. One thing we know for sure, Miggy and the baby will always have on the latest shoes. Look at this shoe collection (and the baby’s collection too!)

Fun fact:  Miggy and Poppy share an apartment on set, so it’s switched around quite often as needed.

We couldn’t leave the set without stopping by the Winebrary! Kimrie Lewis plays Poppy Banks.
