Summertime Grilled Hamburger Hoagie

In our continued partnership with Johnsonville, we’re back sharing another one of their products. So far, we have shared a quick, under 10-minute breakfast recipe with Johnsonville’s already made sausage, and another quick meal idea with their Italian sausage and potatoes.  Today, I’m sharing how you can take Johnsonville Grillers and made an easy, backyard cookout type of meal called the Summertime Grilled Hamburger Hoagie.

Things are starting to heat up around here! FINALLY! For many, warm weather does something to our souls. It brings out the hunter-gatherers and our inner carnivores. We shed our winter boots and heavy attire for flip-flops, cargo shorts, and comfortable polo shirts. Yes, of course, there is yard work to be done and a whole list of warm weather activities, but the primal urge to build a fire and smoke, scorch and char just about any and everything on the food triangle is in a word, irresistible.  We start rolling out our grills and prepping our grill master grill tools. Tongs? Check! Spatula? Check! Grill brush? Check! You know the drill. Because soon the summer breeze will be wafting the sweet smell of charcoal smoke all throughout the neighborhood

Ingredients:

  • Johnsonville Grillers
  • French Loaf
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 medium tomatoes
  • 1 cup Romaine lettuce
  • 2 avocados
  • 2 tablespoons of softened unsalted sweet cream butter
  • 3 tablespoons Horseradish
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 5 slices extra sharp white cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Slice onions, tomatoes, and chop the lettuce and place items in a cool place until you are ready to use them.
  2. Peel and remove the seed stone from the avocados, using a spoon scoop out the soft interior into a medium size bowl. Add in diced green bell pepper, a single tbsp of EVOO and 2 tbsp of horseradish and mix well. This is a rustic recipe so it should not be overworked until it’s smooth. Add freshly cracked black peppercorns and sea salt (or Kosher salt) to taste. Cover bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and place it into the refrigerator until ready to use.
  3. Prepare Johnsonville Grillers according to package directions. Keep warm until ready to assemble hoagie. Summertime Grilled Hamburger Hoagie-5
