We put together a bevy of cocktails to celebrate Marvel’s newest movie, Thor Ragnarok. The Hulk Cocktail is filled with all things green, Granny Smith apples, Green Apple Syrup, and Alizé Apple Liqueur. And because we needed something mega strong we used a dram of TOPO Moonshine Whiskey. We’ll drink to that!
Thor Ragnarok | The Hulk Cocktail
The Incredible Hulk is perhaps the most intense Marvel character of all time. In full-on Hulk mode, he’s more than a handful. Big. Green. Angry. Powerful. All the things prospective employers love seeing on a resume. No? Well, maybe not the green part. Perhaps if you’re auditioning for the Broadway revival of Les Vert Misérables. Did you see what I did right there? But I digress. Moving on.
It’s Bruce Banner’s conflicted alter ego which manifests outsized anger unleashed, thus transforming victim him from would be victim to victor. Outwardly supersized aggression harnessed for the good and the just. Just as it should be. Enviable? Yes! Of all of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) castings, I am most thrilled about Mark Ruffalo’s turn as the big green fella’. Mark is affable, a kinda boy next door demeanor, and it is his down to earth modesty which endears him to fans. But it is Mr. Ruffalo’s tractable portrayal of Bruce Banner which offers such a sharp contrast to the flip-mode of the superhero duality coin. Like so many superhero characters there exists a secret identity, a persona closeted away from public eye, But in the Hulk’s case, his transformation is unbidden and for the most part uncontrollable. But therein lies the metaphor, to capture one’s anger-fueled energy and temper it with a concentrated focus to power through life’s rough patches. Sounds good to me; I’ll raise a glass to that!
“Caught in the blast of gamma radiation, brilliant scientist Bruce Banner is cursed to transform in times of stress into the living engine of destruction known as THE INCREDIBLE HULK. “
Describing Hulk’s changes, Mark Ruffalo adds, “Hulk can be sad or happy. He’s speaking. He’s not only alive because of rage, so we can start to have more geography in the character’s emotional life, his intelligence, what he does, what he eats, if he sleeps—all the questions I’ve been dying to ask for years since playing this part. It’s a different Banner and a different Hulk. So I get to play two totally different characters in this movie, which is really fun.”
And, in the soon to be released Thor Ragnarok, Mr. Banner’s better half gets lots of big HULK SMASH screen time. The Mighty Thor gets humbled, and Asgard is on its last leg after superbad demonic bad girl Hela unleashes multiple cans of kick-butt all over the place. Certainly, not a good look. So, in moments of end-time doom go ahead and reach for deliciously potent cocktails, because when they’re most needed they are most appreciated.
This is our Something Green This Way Comes cocktail. Of course, it’s a straight-up turn-up that’ll refresh after a long day spent usurping the baddies.
We used one of the baddest liquids in a 750 ml bottle, TOPO’s Moonshine Whiskey is a formidable pour, which is so apt for this cocktail situation. We added a nice stream of moonshine whiskey, with lots of crushed ice. Over this, we drizzle on green apple syrup, then pour a waterfall of Alizé Apple until we reach the rim. It’s a no-brainer we’re using slices of Granny Smith green apple for our garnish. Serve this one at your pre or post-Thor Ragnarok movie party and for the love of Odin, easy does it! Cheers!
