A surefire way to cut on certain items is to make them yourself.
I have one recipe for an item that just about everyone uses. Pancake syrup. Yup, and it's straightforward to make. Think 2-2-2-. That’s it.
2 cups Of Water
2 cups of Brown Sugar
2 cups of White Sugar
1/2 -1 teaspoon of vanilla or maple extract
Directions on making homemade syrup:
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, stir in 2 cups of Brown Sugar until it dissolves, then repeat the process with 2 cups of White Sugar.
You can also add 1/2 -1 Teaspoon of vanilla or maple extract (or flavoring). But the funny thing is you can mix it up from batch to batch. You can add cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, or a touch of ground cloves.
One of my favorites is Hazelnut flavoring. You can add just about anything else yummy that you like.
Notes
For the adventurous types, you can even add a bit of coffee or Rum. You decide. Add 1/2 – 1 cup of Karo Corn Syrup for a thicker syrup, depending on desired thickness.
