You Can Rape Me Now.. I Have The Michigan Rape Insurance

from a prominent anti-choice leader in Michigan suggested that rape is like a car accident and it’s appropriate to require women to buy “extra insurance” to prepare for it.

You Can Rape Me Now.. I Have The Michigan Rape Insurance

Yeah, you read right. I can’t even begin to REALLY express how I feel right now.

Just as I had planned to go to bed early tonight, I’m strolling through my newsfeed and I see this:

Screen Shot 2013-12-12 at 2.11.14 AMAt first I thought, maybe she’s talking about #obamacare? I know there are several issues right now with parts of the Affordable Health Care aka Obamacare that quite a few people are upset about it.

But then I kept scrolling and came across this:

Screen Shot 2013-12-12 at 2.13.14 AMMy first reaction was.. What the F—!

So then I started reading. The more I read, the hotter I got.

First, I’m pissed that I have not been keeping up with politics to even KNOW that this was going on. (Life happens!)

Then I became even MORE pissed to find out what this entailed.

Then flipping back over to facebook to see some “women” praising this bill being passed! I’m putting women into quotation marks because I am utterly disgusted that any woman regardless if you’re pro life or choice could be praising GOD about this right now!

If you’re not familiar with this bill, here’s a few snippets (you should do your own research and educate yourself as well on these issues)

Sec. 2. A qualified health plan offered through an American health benefit exchange in this state pursuant to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Public Law 111-148, as amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, Public Law 111-152, shall not provide coverage for elective abortion. This section does not prohibit an individual, organization, or employer participating in a qualified health plan offered through an American health benefit exchange in this state from purchasing supplemental coverage for elective abortion outside of the exchange by an optional rider as provided in this act.

Sec. 3. An expense-incurred hospital, medical or surgical policy or certificate, or health care corporation group or nongroup certificate delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed in this state, or a health maintenance organization group or individual contract offered outside of an American health benefit exchange shall provide coverage for elective abortion only by an optional rider for which an additional premium has been paid by the purchaser.

Sec. 8. This act does not create a right to abortion.

Sec. 9. Notwithstanding any other provision of this act, a person shall not perform an abortion that is prohibited by law.

To sum it up…. women buy Rape Insurance.. just in case you get raped! The measure will ban all insurance plans in the state from covering an abortion procedure, unless the woman’s life is in danger. So unless this “rape” incident boils down to your life being in danger, you’re out of luck— chuck!

From the Huffington post:

“This tells women who were raped … that they should have thought ahead and planned for it,” said Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing) during debates. “Make no mistake, this is anything but a citizens’ initiative. It’s a special interest group’s perverted dream come true.”

The Michigan State Legislature first passed the measure last year, but Governor Rick Snyder (R) vetoed it, saying he does not “believe it is appropriate to tell a woman who becomes pregnant due to a rape that she needed to select elective insurance coverage.”

But the anti-abortion group Right to Life of Michigan was able to collect more than 300,000 voter signatures on a petition this year to force a second vote on the measure. Having been passed by both chambers, the bill automatically becomes law now, even without Snyder’s approval.

I went and watched a video with Senator Whitmer speaking and it was emotional to see her break down and briefly touch on her own experience of being raped.

Then one of my friend’s spoke up on my facebook wall:

Screen Shot 2013-12-12 at 2.32.32 AMNow my friend and many others are being re-victimized all over again with what the Michigan Legislative passed Wednesday evening. And to think that this issue came up sometime last year and our Republican Governor vetoed it. Then to come back, they find a loophole and pass it without his approval. What happened to checks and balances? What happened to the Government of the people?

300,00 votes is a mere scrap of our population and on how many people would have signed a petition to NOT pass this bill!?

This is not about a party line. My friend as mentioned above is a Republican. The Governor is Republican. This is about the SO pro life addicts taking it TO far! What’s next? A ban that if you even think about an abortion we will throw you in jail? They plan to stop at knowing until this is no longer legal. Or as cleverly put by Todd Aken, you can’t get pregnant by being raped (yeah let’s continue to live in lala land) “It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.

The debate over the legislation has heated up this week, particularly since the measure would deny abortion coverage even to women who have become pregnant as a result of rape. Although the overwhelming majority of Americans believe that rape victims should have access to legal abortion services, lawmakers continue to propose policies that would have callous implications for individuals who have been sexually assaulted.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) vetoed the proposed insurance ban last year for exactly this reason — pointing out that it would require rape victims to pay for the total cost of their abortion procedure out-of-pocket, unless they had thought ahead and purchased a separate insurance rider for abortion services. “I don’t believe it is appropriate to tell a woman who becomes pregnant due to a rape that she needed to select elective insurance coverage,” Snyder noted when he rejected the bill last December. {source: thinkprogress}

Now, I will say this.. I don’t agree that you should get an abortion and use it as birth control. They are not the same thing. Many women have aborted their kids that were not raped nor in medical danger. They did it just because they didn’t want it.. I don’t agree with that.

Yes a pregnancy should be planned. But life happens. However, I do not think that any RAPE case was planned. I don’t think any family that was planning to have a baby and had to choose between the Mom and the baby was planned.  I agree that abortion policies should be tighter on people that abuse them. However,  I do not want it to EVER come down to a case where a person that “needs” it has no choice.

I know there are many children that were born out of rape and I applaud women that were able to carry the baby to term and love it. I would have a VERY hard time doing that. Looking at that baby every day knowing how it was created. Knowing the pain that I went through while someone laid on top of me ejaculating their disgusting sperm into me. I just couldn’t.

Women should always have a choice. I am sick of lawmakers, who are made up of mostly males continue to pick a fight about our rights.
If they can pass a law like this, why can’t a law be passed that says we will cut off every repulsive dick that touches a woman in this manner?

I still can’t even express the anger that is within me right now regarding the passing of this “rape bill.” This anger will turn into passion and we will do something about this! Mark my words!

In the meantime, be sure to sign up for your insurance in March.. ya know.. just in case you’re RAPED! {because if you don’t get it and you do get raped, you’re abortion is not covered}

In the meantime, I would love to hear your thoughts!

And if you’re in Michigan and this outrages you as well: Call/email/write your frustration to the Michigan Legislative!

Michigan Senate Democrats Gretchen Whitmer and Rebekah Warren have created a petition to help ensure that every Michigander has a chance to be heard. Sign the petition at and tell the Michigan Legislature you want your vote counted next November.

As internet sensation Antoine Dodson states.. “you are dumb, you are so dumb” (me to the idiots on Capital Hill right now)
“Hide yo kids, hide yo wives, hide yo husbands too because they’re raping everyone up in here”

Yeah.. women we have been raped by those that were supposed to protect and serve US!

GREAT Article. As you know, I am a victim of sexual assault and I am absolutely disgusted by this law. I am so sorry for all women and girls in the state of Michigan. This is more of the war on women and I cannot stand it. Thanks for this. They are my own thoughts exactly.

Oh my lord…YOU NAILED THIS. These are my feelings 100%. Thank you for writing with a clear head and stating the facts. I am so outraged by this as well and I for sure signed that petition. Not for me, but for my daughters!

P.S. What happened to repubs being anti big government?! Stay the F out of my vagina, government!

At one point, a few years ago, I said to a friend, if abortion is murder, miscarriage would have to be treated as manslaughter. I was trying to illustrate how ludicrous it was. And then, some states passed laws that treat it just as such, within a year after I said that. Facepalm.
