We can all agree just how snacky Texas Toast is, but let’s take it to the next level. Our BBQ Texas Toast Pizza is everything you like about Texas Toast, but in pizza form.

We’ve gone and made something so good, just a little better.

There’s the garlicky and buttery Texas Toast, but there’s more.

We slathered on barbecue sauce and added shredded chicken and gooey mozzarella.

Then, I added savory red onions and topped the whole affair with fresh sweet basil.

If you’re a fan of quick, easy, and delicious meal ideas the whole family will love, then our BBQ Texas Toast Pizza is for you.

And it comes with just a few items, most of which you probably already have.

Here Is What You Need

Texas Toast. I used two (2) New York Bakery Texas Toast packages for this recipe. Our boys typically eat three slices each, and Tat and I will have two. A great thing about this recipe is that it takes very little prep.

Shredded Chicken. You can use shredded rotisserie chicken, chicken breasts, or canned chicken; I use three (3) cups of chicken.

Barbecue Sauce. Add your favorite barbecue sauce to the shredded chicken and mix it thoroughly.

Mozzarella Cheese. I love using the mini Mozzarella balls; press one into the center of each toast.

Red Onions. I use red onions, but you also use green onion, yellow, or sweet onions. Try caramelizing the onion to make it even better; it is so good.

A bowl filled with thin sliced red onion.

Directions for making Texas toast pizza in the air fryer

1. Preheat the oven or air fryer to 425°F.

3. Shred the chicken, add barbecue sauce and Italian seasoning, and mix well.

4. Add two (2) heaping tbsps of the shredded chicken mixture onto each slice and spread it evenly.

  • Grilled Red or Green Peppers
  • Pineapple Rings or Chunks
  • Crumbled Bacon
  • Pesto Sauce
  • Sautéed Mushrooms
  • Garlic Chili Oil
  • Kimchi

Also, chicken isn’t the only option; you can also try:

  • Meatless
  • Chopped Beef
  • Pulled Pork
  • Italian Sausage
  • Proscuitto
  • Pepperoni

Can I make these ahead of time?

You can prep all ingredients, i.e., slice the onion, prepare the shredded chicken mixture, and store them in the fridge.

New York Bakery Texas Toast is best kept frozen until ready to use.

Then, when you’re ready, make and bake them, and you’re good to go.

Easy peasy.
