Why Do You Need To Refrigerate Sugar Cookie Dough

Refrigerating the cookie dough will help to make sure you can use a cookie cutter and bake up the cookies while holding their shape. If you do not refrigerate the dough, you will find it can flatten out and the cookie-cutter shape will not hold up.

How Thin Do I Roll The Cookie Dough Out To?

With your chilled dough, on a floured surface, roll the cookie dough out till it is about 1/4 inch thick. If you do thicker, just adjust the baking time according to when the cookies are done.

Make sure you have an even thickness, as you don’t want some cookies to be done before others. Or some undercooked and other cookies on the same sheet are ready to be pulled.

How to Store Sugar Cookies with Frosting

This frosting is one that needs to be refrigerated. Once your sprinkled sugar cookies are frosted, place them in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator.

If you do not, the frosting will begin to melt down as it warms up from sitting out for so long. Be sure to read these tips on 6 Frosting Tips Every Baker Should Know.

Can I Freeze Sugar Cookies with Frosting

Yes, feel free to freeze any cookies you don’t plan to eat right away. Or if you need to make them ahead of time for an event. I recommend placing it in a container that doesn’t smash the frosting on top of the cookies.

You can sttore in the freezer for 2-3 months. When you want some, remove and do a quick thaw on the counter for an hour. Or refrigerate in the fridge overnight for a slower thaw.

How to Know Sugar Cookies Are Done

Sugar cookies are done when you stick a toothpick in and it comes out clean of wet batter. Sugar cookies need to be pulled from the oven when they are still a pale color. Not golden brown like some cookies. If you over-bake the sugar cookies with sprinkles, they will become dry and crumbly when you try and eat them.

Enjoy!
