I have a confession to make. Over the years I’ve had the hardest time drinking the recommended 48-64 ounces of water on a daily basis. Whew, I’m glad I got that off my chest. 

A few years ago I decided to make some changes about how I drink water.  According to experts, we’re supposed to drink about half of our body weight in water, so finding creative ways, and the will, to drink that much water on a daily basis is overwhelming. However, there are so many AWESOME benefits of drinking water; it’s necessary for all of us to drink as much as we can. 

There are so many healthy reasons why we should all drink our daily dose of water. I'm sharing 10 benefits of drinking water, and creative ways I drink more water.

  • I get major migraine headaches. Drinking water on a daily basis will help eliminate headaches. Did you know that a lot of headaches are caused by dehydration? 
  • Another great benefit of drinking water will help prevent kidney stones and infections. 
  • Drinking water will help improve digestion. 
  • I’ve been working on becoming a healthier me this year and losing weight. By drinking water, I am able to accomplish this task, which is a win-win! 
  • You can improve your skin complexion by drinking your daily dose of water. 
  • Another benefit is that drinking water will boost your immune system. 
  • You can flush out those nasty toxins by drinking water on a daily basis. 
  • Also by drinking water, you can help relieve fatigue. 
  • Drinking water saves you money! Instead of buying a ton of soda, juice, and other beverages, drink water.  
  • Drinking water helps decrease the need to snack on unnecessary sugar and high carb snacks.

You can easily spend a ton of money by buying bottled water each week. Buy a Brita® Pitcher and get the most bang for your buck. We’ve been using a Brita® Pitcher for the past year, and I’ve noticed a big decrease in our food budget. I am not buying as much juice, and I don’t have to buy gallons of water every week.

With a Brita®, it filters out all the unnecessary bad things found in the faucet water or even bottled water. If the water in your home has too many minerals or has a high Sulfur content, your water smells horrible and tastes even worse. You can buy many types of filters to remove the bad smell and taste. There are filters for your faucet, and filters you can pour the water into, and then put into your refrigerator. Dollar General carries Brita® Pitchers, and you can pick up a basic 6 cup pitcher for under $15 bucks.

When I became a mom, one thing that I’ve done right is to make sure my kids drink enough water. When we brought home our first Brita® a few years ago, I noticed an uptick in the water consumption with my boys. And to my surprise, our boys have water bottles and they constantly keep them filled throughout the day. But they do this because I’ve made it as easy as going to the fridge and grabbing our Brita® Pitcher. Fewer water bottles, less plastic waste, and healthier kids. I like to drink water from a straw. If drinking water out of a cup or a bottle sounds boring, you’re not alone. I can’t drink water out of a cup. I don’t know why sounds weird, but it’s true. I have to use a straw. You can easily pick up a pack of straws from Dollar General.  I like to get a big glass, fill it with ice, and use my Brita® pitcher to fill the glass up with water. I use a 16 oz glass, so I know I have to drink at least four of these glasses per day. {Pro-Tip: This is a GREAT way to keep track of how much water you need to drink per day.}

Ice, Ice Baby- Another way I drink water is to fill a cup with ice. I have a serious crush on ice. I will fill our ice-trays with my Brita® Pitcher, so my water is still purified.

Infuse It! Fruit is a great way to take your water to the next level. Some of the fruits you can use take a little longer to infuse into the water, but if you use watermelon, lime, or lemon, all you have to do is add it to your water and shake. Other great infusions: Apple Cinnamon, Cucumber, Cucumber Melon, Cherry and Lime, Strawberry Kiwi.

Snack attack. Another creative way I make sure I drink water is to have a few snacks throughout the day. I like to eat granola bars, salted peanuts, and other snacks that will make me thirsty. And I can use the Glad® small storage containers to put in portion controlled snacks. 

At the end of the day, this is all about changing your drinking habits. There’s nothing worse than finding a great healthy way to eat and then killing it by drinking a soda. By using a Brita® Pitcher, not only are you getting purified water, but you’re saving a ton of money in the long run.

    At the airport gate, on my way back to the U.S. (from Africa), the second security check confiscated the 3 liters of water I had just purchased in the main terminal. I cried. Literally, I cried. Clearly, the security agent didn’t understand exactly how much water I consume on a 17 hour flight (about 6 liters actually!). Water has always been my drink of choice. It just makes me feel good. I tell my clients to drink water if they have a craving, a headache, are constipated, hungry, etc. Water is so beneficial, so easy, so free yet so easily overlooked. It’s really a no brainer (actually your brain is 90% water!!!). Your body is about 70% water, the majority of your blood and every cell in your body is composed of water. Therefore, you need water to function properly.
