The Wolfgang Puck Cooking School: Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Crostini

Riddle me this, have you ever tackled a new recipe and all you had to work with are words on a page and a static image to look at? Mind you, cookbooks and magazines serve a purpose, but if you’re making something new or unfamiliar for the first time, then the paper page leaves a lot to be desired. And if you’re like me, you are one of those types who learn best by watching, there is a pretty good chance that “watching” is infinitely more beneficial than reading about a recipe in a book. Enter the Wolfgang Puck Cooking School.

Enter the Wolfgang Puck Cooking School is kinda’ like Bruce Lee’s Enter The Dragon

Excitement! Lots of action! And kick ass recipes! Yep, totally reminds me of a Bruce Lee movie! Chef Puck’s online cooking school is a virtual cookbook. A cookbook that gives you so many more useful perks than the regular kind of cookbook. The Wolfgang Puck Cooking School allows you to step inside and experience the intimacy of one-on-one cooking classes. And if seeing is believing then your eyes have entered the cooking promised land. Yes, there are words aplenty, but the appeal here is watching one of the culinary world’s top chefs live and in living color doing what he does best, cook. You get to see and hear step-by-step instruction, get tips and so much more, and the cool thing is you can pause, repeat and save to your heart’s content.

Did you know Wolfgang Puck is your new cool best foodie friend?

Yes, and I definitely think he brought his Austrian cool with him when he landed in Indianapolis back in the 70’s when he first arrived here to transform American cooking forever. And now all of his cooking cool is yours for the taking. The Wolfgang Puck Cooking School has it all. So, it doesn’t matter what your cooking experience is because Chef Puck covers the basics, intermediate and advanced concepts and skills.

A Confidence Builder and a superabundance of new and exciting recipes!

Recently my wife and I had the opportunity to meet Wolfgang Puck when he unveiled his web-based cooking school in Detroit at his wonderful MGM Wolfgang Puck Steak restaurant. We got to see and more importantly, hear from the man himself as he described his plans for his virtual cooking creation. Mr. Puck radiated genuine enthusiasm as he described his desire to not only to teach good cooking techniques but how he wanted to build a community of like-minded home cooks. To encourage people to talk about and share their cooking experiences. One of the unique and unselfish aspects I discovered about Chef Puck is how open he is to users experimenting and adjusting his recipes to suit their individual needs and specific tastes, and he wants to hear about it too! In a sense, he wants his online community to inspire and teach him about their cooking preferences too. Yin and yang. Master and students. The giving and taking for the betterment of what matters most, the food. Sounds perfectly perfect to me.

Here goes nothing!

Scrolling through the many recipes on Chef Puck’s online cooking school makes me want to try each and every one, and although I may just eventually (food goals, right?) do that I begin my Wolfgang Puck Cooking School experience with recreating just one. I settled on trying my hand at recreating Wolfgang Puck’s Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Crostini. At the initial online launch of his online cooking school guests were treated to an amazing six-recipe tasting course. Although all of the dishes were memorable and delicious, I personally was very impressed with the Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Crostini. I started by subscribing to The Wolfgang Puck Cooking School, and it’s so easy, within a few minutes I was ready to go. Second, I watched the video for making the Broccoli Cheddar Soup and creating a list of the ingredients I would need. Here’s the cool part instead of using cheddar cheese I used a mix of Parmesan and aged goat’s cheese and the recipe still rocked!

Like many households, we got a lot going on at just about any time of the day. So having the ability to pause and rewind the Chef Puck’s instructional videos is a pretty cool feature. I have realized that learning new recipes is often more times than not, a challenge. But here, the recipe videos is a very patient teacher. After I had watched the video a few times, I made my grocery list online and printed it out and the next day I went shopping and I got everything I needed. Now, as I began putting the recipe together, I had Wolfgang Puck right there with me on my iPad every step of the way. I was even able to create notes for the recipe on my online profile to regarding the changes I made. That’s a neato little feature.

Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Cheddar Crostini AWR 3 In the end, I came away with a tremendous confidence boost when I tasted the final results, and what I was able to accomplish in the comfort of my own kitchen with the assistance of the Wolfgang Puck Cooking School exceeded my expectations. Chef Puck provided the cooking basics and the framework, and I was also encouraged to add my own unique spin on a great recipe. So, tell me what are you waiting for? Make something delicious!
