Christmas Advent Idea- Christmas Book Countdown
Every year we create new Family Christmas Traditions. This year I decided to introduce a new advent Christmas calendar.
We had a fabric Advent calendar similar to THIS one. I say had, because I can’t find it.
I’ve seen this idea floating around the Internet: make a countdown calendar with several Christmas books.
One of our yearly traditions that we do with the boys is giving them a new book on Christmas Eve.
So this year I made a Christmas Advent Calendar out of books. However, instead of buying 24 new books we are reusing what we already have.
I plan to throw in a few new Christmas books, and they will still get a new Christmas book on Christmas Eve. This method allows us to not only save money on buying new books, but we can reread some of the books that we forget about.
Some of our favorite books that will be unwrapped over the next 24 days will be:
The Polar Express (I saved this one for Christmas Eve)
It’s Christmas David ( Zayd’n loves this book!!)
The Snowy Day (my favorite when I was a kid!)

This Advent Christmas book idea is easy to do. You just need 24 books. You can wrap them up in wrapping paper or brown paper (if you want to recycle/reuse).
This idea will not only allow us to do something together each evening over the next 24 days, but it also helps with their reading skills.
It’s not too late to join in on this type of advent Calendar. You can either go buy new books or just reuse what you have at home. AND, they don’t all have to be Christmas books. I added several books that were non-Christmas related. I tried to pick out books that the boys have not read in a long time, and would still interest our 9 year old and two soon-to-be tweens!
This is a great Christmas tradition and a way to countdown to Christmas.
