What you will need to make these mummy truffles for a Halloween treat

What you will need to make these chocolate truffles for a Halloween treat

Because this recipe has so few ingredients, it’s important to use the best quality ingredients!

Dark Chocolate Chips. You can substitute any chocolate for dark chocolate— milk, semisweet, and bittersweet are all delicious. A chopped chocolate bar is recommended, as chips do not melt as evenly.

Heavy Cream. You must use heavy cream in this recipe— lower-fat milk will be too thin to set up properly.

White Melting Wafers. You can use tempered white chocolate instead of white chocolate melting wafers, but it is very finicky and easy to burn. I highly recommend bright white melting wafers (available in most grocery and craft stores) to ensure a true white mummy look.

Flake or Sea Salt. Kosher and table salt are not recommended substitutions in this recipe.

Candy Eyes. You can also use a Black Food Marker as well.

These delicious Halloween truffles are great for a treat at home or a fun addition to any Halloween party or gathering.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups bright white melting wafers (see notes)
  • 1/2 tsp flake or sea salt
  • Candy Eyes or a Black Food Marker

Directions:

  1. Add the chocolate and salt to a large bowl.
  2. Heat the cream in the microwave for 30 seconds— or on the stovetop until it starts to steam.
  3. Pour the cream over the chocolate and allow it to sit for 1 minute.
  4. Whisk the cream and chocolate until it is fully combined. Cover with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge to harden— about 4 hours.
  5. Once the chocolate is fully hardened, scoop a 1 tbsp-sized ball onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Once you’ve scooped all the truffles, roll them around in your hands to ensure they are tightly packed and smooth on all sides. Place them into the freezer for 20 minutes.
  7. Melt the white chocolate wafers according to the package directions. Transfer 1/4 of the white chocolate to a ziplock bag.
  8. Divide the remaining melted white chocolate into two small bowls.
  9. Remove the truffles from the freezer and dip them one by one into one of the bowls of melted white chocolate using a fork. Tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to allow any excess chocolate to drip off. Place the dipped truffles back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Allow the white chocolate to fully cool before repeating the process with the second bowl of chocolate— you will dip the truffles in white chocolate twice. (see notes)
  11. If using candy eyes, attach them while the chocolate is still wet. Using a food marker, allow the chocolate to set fully before drawing on the eyes.
  12. Lastly, cut just the tip-off of the ziplock bag and drizzle the chocolate over the truffles to create the mummy look.
  13. Allow the chocolate to set fully before enjoying them. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days.

Tips for these easy Halloween Truffles

Tips for these easy Halloween Truffles

Important: Because these truffles have a very soft center, it is crucial to dip them in white chocolate twice.

The first time you dip the truffles in white chocolate, some dark chocolate will mix into the white chocolate and turn it a marbled white/brown.

Dipping them in fresh white chocolate again ensures that you will end up with perfectly coated, bright white mummies.
