Pizza Kabobs

Pizza Kabobs Recipe | School Lunch Box Idea

Back to school season is here! And as we start prepping for another school year, we’re working on lunchbox ideas that are quick and easy. If your child enjoys pizza, then this lunch box pizza is going to be a hit. This is a great way to ensure they’re getting enough veggies and will be a hit with the kids!

These Pizza Kabobs are a fun twist on the typical lunchbox recipe. The kabobs make it easy to pack up leftover slices of pizza for school lunches while also being healthy and kid-friendly! I went for a simple pepperoni pizza-style lunchbox, and of course, it was a hit. So grab your favorite lunch pale, and let’s assemble.

What Do I Need For This Pizza Kabobs

Meat. You can essentially use any meat. I went with pepperoni as it was easy to grab and use, but also, all kids love pepperoni. Canadian bacon or even salami could be another tasty option.

Cheese.Mozzarella balls are the perfect size for these pizza kabobs. They hold together on the toothpicks and are tasty. You could also buy a block of mozzarella cheese and cube it.

Pizza Crust. So for me, I reached for store-bought pizza crust to use as pizza dough. You are welcome to make homemade and then use a cookie cutter to shape the kabobs.

Sauce. Grab your favorite pizza sauce for this kabob recipe!

How to Assemble Pizza Kabobs

How to Assemble Pizza Kabobs

Grab your toothpicks and start by cookie cutting your pizza crust in wide strips. You want it to be a similar size to the pepperoni. I find using a circle cookie cutter worked great, but any shape works.

Place your pizza crust on the toothpick, layer on the first ingredient, pepperoni, cheese, the do crust, pepperoni, and cheese. Repeat till your toothpick is full.

Next, place the kabobs in the lunch box, and then in a separate compartment or container, add your pizza sauce.

What Else to Pack in Child’s Lunch For The Day

  • Crisp veggies – these are great to add to the kabobs, or they can eat separately. The veggies are even good dipped in the pizza sauce.
  • Fruit – Pineapple, strawberries, watermelon, etc., all work great.
  • Cookie – Fig Newtons, chocolate chips, sugar, etc.

Tips For Making Easy Pizza Kabobs

You can use fun-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the pizza crust. A flower, heart, or other shapes adds a fun pop of a personal touch. You could also cut the pepperoni and block cheese into shapes.

You can pre-make these the night before you want to serve them up at lunch. Just keep the sauce in a separate compartment to prevent it from sogging up the other items.

If you are using mozzarella balls, make sure to drain them so there is no liquid on the balls, or it can sog up the pizza crust.

Variations To Pizza Recipe

There are so many variations to this pizza recipe. The main point is to have key pizza ingredients that will make this pizza kabob recipe one your child will love and ask for again and again! Feel free to change it up or add your favorite pizza toppings.

Dipping Sauces: Pizza Sauce, Ranch, Pesto, or Marinara sauce.

Topping Veggie Salad: Tomatoes, Mushrooms, a Red Bell Pepper, Green Peppers, and Black Olives

Pizza Themed Dessert: Pineapple

Garnish Ideas: Fresh Basil, Parmesan cheese, Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

You could even take these pizza kabobs up a notch by adding cook sausage, Spanish onion, a piece of Canadian bacon, and additional seasonings like Italian seasoning, garlic powder for extra pizza flavor.

Friday nights at our house are pizza nights, and this would be a fun way to break up our traditional pizza nights for pizza kabobs. These pizza kabobs are easy to make and a creative way to add a fun appetizer to a child’s birthday (like a Toy Story-themed party). I also like this pizza recipe for party appetizers and game day appetizers.
