13 Ways To Use Thieves Essential Oil Blend

When I first started getting into using essential oils, I heard about a blend called Thieves almost right off the bat. Thieves is a blend by the company Young Living, and it contains clove, cinnamon bark, lemon, rosemary, and eucalyptus. Thieves can have some natural disinfecting qualities to it, and that is why you will find it as a common essential oil blend to use around the house. Whenever someone in our house LOOKS like they are about to get sick, I start using thieves immediately (drop behind the ears, wrists, and ankles). If you are looking for some uses for it, here are some great ways to get the most out of your thieves essential oil as well as some warnings to pay attention to.

Best Ways To Use Thieves

  1. Thieves can be used when diluted in some water. Just use about ten drops in a spray bottle for a nice cleaner that’s good on most surfaces. {or you can buy the Thieves Cleaner. This is what we use now vs. all of the other cleaners with chemicals in them.}
  2. Diffuse Thieves in a diffuser for a great room refresher, especially if you are ill.
  3. Mix 1 drop with some warm salt water and gargle when you have a sore throat.
  4. If you don’t have super sensitive skin, Thieves can be great for acne spots. Just dilute it and add it to the acne for a couple of days to help clear it up. { For me, I have found using Clarly Sage works better!}
  5. Add 2-3 drops to your dishwasher to add a nice disinfecting boost.
  6. If you hate those stickers or price tags on items, get them off easily with a drop of Thieves.
  7. Add a drop to your toothpaste for a nice boost in it and healthier gums. You can also sanitize your toothbrush with a drop of it as well.
  8. Use a carrier oil and rub some into tired, achy muscles for some nice relief.
  9. Open the bottle and inhale for relief of congestion or allergy symptoms.
  10. Make a paste out of baking soda, water and some drops of Thieves for a great scrub for kitchen sinks and bathtubs.
  11. The next time you mop, try adding some drops of thieves blend to the water. I swear it makes things extra shiny and clean.
  12. Help end product buildup in your hair with a couple of drops of Thieves in your shampoo. It will help break up any residue. Rinse well.
  13. Just like in the dishwasher, you can use Thieves in your sink full of dishes for an extra boost in disinfectant and it smells awesome, too.

Some cautions about Thieves:

  • It is recommended that you don’t place Thieves directly on the skin as the oils in it are pretty strong and can be harsh, especially for those with sensitive skin. Instead, dilute it with a carrier oil such as almond, coconut or even light oil.
  • I personally don’t recommend using Thieves essential oil blend of children. My boys are teenagers, and we use it moderately on them. This includes younger and older children as well as infants. It can be too harsh, and on top of it, the clove has been known to cause bad reactions.
  • Do not use or diffuse near pets, especially rodents or cats. These animals tend to have sensitive respiratory systems and Thieves is very strong.
  • Use caution with thieves when pregnant or breastfeeding. It is important you discuss this with your doctor or a professional aromatherapist.
