Are you in love with the Watermelon Mojito Smoothie from Tropical Smoothie as much as we are? We can’t get enough of this summertime frozen fruity and yummy treat! And since we were spending a king’s ransom on getting them (they’re so irresistible), we decided to create our very own copycat Watermelon Mojitos. Read on to see how I did it!
Watermelon Mojito Smoothie
Yes, these babies are pricey, like $6.35 pricey, and when the Mrs. and I each get one that’s double! And because we love them so much, I decided to recreate this limited-time summer offering. The ingredients are not that expensive (the most expensive item was why buying the watermelon and the organic strawberries) so I figured I would give it a try at home in my kitchen and lo and behold EUREKA! I nailed it!
This is one incredibly delicious smoothie. And it is packed with healthy stuff, and it is mostly all fresh ingredients except the organic honey. And if you want to omit the honey altogether then, by all means, do so.
I made this smoothie with and without the organic honey, and I preferred the recipe using the honey, and it’s only two tablespoons of organic sweetness, and of course, you can use sweeteners like agave, date sugar, simple syrup or whatever type of sweetener you prefer. This is also a great morning to get your morning started because of its calming and soothing properties, mint also promotes proper digestion, so there’s that.
And with low-calorie watermelon and strawberries as the base of this smoothie, this recipe is loaded with tons of antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C. And with just a touch of organic honey, it’s one of my favorite smoothies.
Benefits of drinking a smoothie
Let’s not forget the fresh-squeezed lime juice and lime juice is a citrus fruit powerhouse when it comes to its many benefits, here’s just a few: promotes weight loss, reduces heart disease, protects against cancer, and lowers blood sugar.
The key to any great smoothie is using frozen fruit, and this recipe is no exception. For this smoothie recipe, I sliced nine strawberries in half and used twenty chunks of fresh watermelon and put them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper; I then placed them in the freezer overnight. In the morning I put the fruit in a food processor and added five fresh mint leaves from our herb garden, along with the juice of one lime, and two tablespoons of organic honey and as it was mixing I also added about a quarter cup of alkaline water to give it a smoother consistency, you can use tap water if you want but filtered water is a much healthier addiction.
The finished smoothie comes perfect for any hot summer day, or just about any day for that matter. You will make this once and get hooked on the flavor, and like me, this may become one of your most favorite things.
