Let’s get ready to celebrate the Fourth with this party idea!

I’m sharing a 4th of July party idea, which includes a patriotic balloon garland, and a red, white, and blue sweets table!

Read on to see how you can put this patriotic party together to celebrate the Fourth of July this weekend.

Celebrate 4th of July Party Idea

Celebrate 4th of July Party Idea

Growing up, celebrating the 4th of July meant going to the parade, eating good food, and hanging out with our family. The summers we were in Columbus, Ohio, spending time with our Grandma, we went to the Red White and Boom show.

From the food, music, and spectacular fireworks, I always looked forward to this event.

As the year passed by, the 4th of July took on a new meaning.

When my Grandma passed away on July 4, 1997, the purpose of celebrating dampened. It wasn’t the same.

Over the years, my 4th of July holiday transitioned into taking our boys to the fireworks show and having a cookout with family.

For many people in the Black community, the 4th of July is seen as a time to get together with loved ones, while dishing up delicious food. July 4, 1776, was the day Independence was declared.

And while it was a celebration of freedom, for African-Americans, it was just another day.

It wasn’t until June 19, 1865, the day when all slaves got the news that they were free (after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed into law on January 1, 1863) that they could celebrate. And that is why we also celebrate Juneteenth.

I’m sure you didn’t come for a history lesson, but it was important for me to share this information.

Our family celebrates both holidays, including hosting our first annual Juneteenth party a few weeks ago.

Plus, we’re always up for hosting a party!

4th of July Decorations

Let’s break down this 4th of July Party Idea! No party, especially a red, white, and blue party, goes down without the appropriate decorations and themed foods.

Red, White, and Blue Balloon Garland

One way you can bring instant pop and pizzaz to your party is to create a balloon garland. Balloon garlands are tedious to put together, but the outcome is FAB!

I picked up a pack of 12′ red, white, and blue balloons from Party City. I also found red and blue star balloons from last year’s Fourth of July party.

I recommend using a pump to fill the balloons quickly.

Here are two pumps I recommend:

  • Balloon Time Disposable Helium Kit, 14.9 cu.ft.
  • Electric Balloon Pump Portable Balloon Inflator

You will also need to have a roll of the balloon tape strip. The tape strip allows you to put the balloon garland together without getting super frustrated.

Once you blow up the balloons and have a design in mind, you thread the balloons through the tape strip.

This garland was kept super simple. After blowing up a ton of balloons, I put the garland together by color.

I started with blue, mixing in the blue star balloons, then moved on to the red balloons, then white, and repeated the idea until I reached my desired length.

I have a breakdown of how to create a balloon garland in this post if you want to check it out!

Red, White & Blue Supplies

Red, White & Blue Party Supplies

There are so many red, white and blue party supplies available to decorate for your party. Even the Dollar Store carries nice decorations!

For this idea, I’m repurposing quite a bit of last year’s Fourth of July party decor. I’m also using an American flag as part of my party decor.

This is not just a random American flag. My dad served in the Navy. This flag was presented to our family as part of the military salute during his homegoing service.

This is a beautiful way to dress up your table in a patriotic theme.

If you don’t have or don’t want to use an American flag, you can purchase a patriotic tablecloth.

Red, White & Blue Party Supplies

I’m using a patriotic balloon garland as my main decoration, so I kept the decorations on the table pretty simple.

I covered my table with a white plastic tablecloth. Then I draped the American flag across the table, making sure it was tied to the table (not touching the ground).

Here’s a list of items shown above:

  • Rae Dunn 4th of July Mugs | HomeGoods
  • American Flags | Dollar Store
  • Patriotic Tins | Target
  • Blue Plastic Silverware | Dollar Store
  • An assortment of patriotic napkins | HomeGoods + Party City
  • An assortment of paper straws | HomeGoods
  • Patriotic Paper Lanterns {check out this bundle!}
  • Ice Cream Dishes | HomeGoods
  • SunGlasses | Target & Dollar Store

Since this is a patriotic theme, we included a variety of red, white, and blue foods.

These patriotic dishes and snack ideas can also be a part of the decorations.

I placed cake stands across the table and piled on red, white, and blue goodies.

Red, White & Blue Dessert Table

Red, White & Blue Dessert Table

This patriotic table is full of red, white, and blue goodies. For this celebration, we created a dessert table with a variety of items.

Derrick made a red, white, and blue trifle using his shortcake recipe, along with whip cream, blueberries, and strawberries.

The rest of the goodies were picked up from the grocery store.

That’s one of my main ways to save time when hosting a big party.

If you’re short on time but still want the themed cookies, cupcakes, and sweets, pick them up at the store.

Most stores will have themed sweets available to purchase about a week before the holiday.

We also added fresh watermelon to our dessert table, as well as blue soda.

Red, White & Blue Sweets Board

Derrick also created a red, white, and blue treat board filled with sweets. While we don’t recommend filling up on sugar, having one or two patriotic sweet treats is okay!

This sweets board is filled with so many red, white, and blue treats! If you’re looking for an idea that you can pull off at the last minute, this is it.

With the 4th of July this weekend, stores are filled with all of these items so you can purchase and put this board together within an hour.

I was able to find everything at my local Midwest grocery store; however, most grocery stores carry the same/similar items.

4th of July

This year, the 4th of July celebrations will look different. Most firework shows are canceled, no week-long festivals are happening, and many people are staying home.

While it may be a different holiday filled with mixed emotions, we can be thankful for our health, our family, and the food.

However, you decide to celebrate this holiday, be safe, and practice social distancing!
